Welcoming Vishal to the Pivigo Team!

Our Data Science Hub Team Grows again!

Pivigo welcomes Vishal Sharma as our new Community Manager!

I cannot describe how incredibly excited I am about the journey ahead with Pivigo to grow the Data Science community in the UK and beyond. It all started a few months ago…

First, let me give you an insight into my background. I was born in India and after moving cities and countries more than half a dozen times before I was 12, I came to live in UK in the year 2000. I spoke little English at the time and had to skip an academic year. As a result my first year in the UK was tough and I was always playing catch up in class. Fast forward to A-levels (high school) and I left school with straight A’s in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and a great bunch of friends. I initially pursued a career in banking and worked for 4 years with Deutsche Bank and HSBC. But I realised something was missing. I had lost my intellectual curiosity. I needed to make a change. I thought long and hard and decided to leave the safety of the known for something different but hopefully more fulfilling. I am now studying a masters degree at UCL, that combines technology and enterprise and it has given me the confidence to explore an exciting new career in technology.

Data Science has been a buzzword in the media for some time now and is an area I was keen to explore at UCL. So, through my involvement with the UCL Entrepreneurs society, I organised a Data Science panel speaker event with Kim and 4 other CEOs and CTOs. Their passion and their belief that Data Science will make a big difference to organisations and society across the world ignited a spark inside me and a desire to pursue a career in this field. To say that I was delighted to receive an offer to work for Pivigo as a Community Manager would therefore be an understatement! My role at Pivigo will allow me to continue working with students, something which I thoroughly enjoy at UCL, while learning more about this exciting field of work and seeing first-hand the impact Data Science is having on a variety of organisations from large businesses to early stage start-ups across many fields. I also enjoy organising events and I am looking forward to the challenge of organising Europe’s largest Data Science bootcamp this summer, growing our Data Science Ambassador programme and helping PhD’s make the transition from Science to Data Science.

We now have Data Science tools to start solving questions that can have a major impact on organisations. It’s a very exciting time to be involved in this field and I am fortunate to be given an opportunity to be part of it.
